Southampton finally has some musicians to offer, and these musicians even got themselves signed to Rough Trade. Delays, a four piece act, are letting everyone know they’re embedded in despondency, and it’s no doubt a result of Southampton’s lacklustre capacity for culture.
Nearer Than Heaven has the greatest potency for those that jump on the bandwagon of musical disdain. The vocals, from Greg Gilbert, will no doubt make the braggart inside those that follow disdain rip itself out and cry for mercy. I feel like echoing sympathy, they’re not attempting to be anything but easy listening pop articles. It’s easy, after listening to Nearer Than Heaven, to imagine situations such as a couple of kids in another shite English town having their first kiss to its joyous harmonies, or some of the NME small music mind generation, singing along under the influence of mind expanding alcoholic beverages. There’s not much more to say.
